The 2017 Springapalooza Fun Raiser was held in the Visitor Center Atrium instead of the Student Union Mall due to high winds outdoors. Though this meant that the traffic of potential customers was much lower than expected, we appreciated the support and still had fun.

• Course preparation and research opportunities

• Why get a MS or PhD

• Researching grad schools and faculty

The ACS held their February local section meeting featuring a lecture by Dr. John McIlroy, a forensic chemist with the Drug Enforcement Administration at the South Central Laboratory in Dallas, TX. The evening included a social hour, dinner, and Dr. McIlroy's talk: "China White, Spice, Bath Salts, and N-Bombs: Designer Drugs in America

Official seminar synopsis:

In the world of competitive and professional sports, chemistry is more impactful than you might think. Discover the materials that chemists are creating to enable athletes to perform better and stay safer, as well as how analytical chemistry is advancing to detect performance enhancing substances in order to keep the playing field level for everyone. During this interactive event, viewers will be able to network with young chemists and have an opportunity to ask questions live to the experts regarding the amazing work that is being done in sports science.
